One monkey is usually okay to be around. However, many monkeys are really potentially dangerous sort of like a family of Raccoons

I have seen a whole human family attacked by about 50 or 100 monkeys and you don't want to see this. So, when I was in India and Nepal around monkeys if it was more than one I always kept my distance because families of monkeys are especially dangerous. The same with wild dogs in India where a friend of ours had to have a whole rabies series of shots to survive that bite.

People think monkeys are cute but they are often not cute at all when there are more than one of them facing you.
