Writing is amazing!

Though my mother threw away my writings (and my comic book collection) at one point in my early 20s likely when I got married and had a son. I have all or most of my writings since I was 32 years old in 1980.

First I wrote down often in longhand then because I didn't really own a computer with a printer yet. For example, in 1978 I bought my first computer but it didn't have a printer. It was a TRS-80 from Radio Shack and I learned the Basic Language for programming it. You saved the programs you wrote on it on a Cassette tape which fed into the computer. In other words there was no memory when the computer was turned off so you had to feed the programs in through your cassette tape player.

I also taught my older children then between 1980 and 1985 especially to program their own computer games in from scratch. So, I helped them design their own computer games if they were interested.

It wasn't until 1987 when I bought an IBM Clone AT computer and an Epsom Color printer when I was 39 years old then for my family. At this point I could type in any of my writings from longhand or from a typewriter. I had taken a typing class in 7th Grade and learned to type on a typewriter the summer after 7th Grade. So, I could type about 30 to 60 words a minute by the end of that summer from that class. (not perfectly accurately but I could still type pretty fast and then use the correctape to fix any errors. I really loved the capacity first on the TRS-80 to correct any typing errors and this got even better with the AT where you didn't have to type anything unless it was perfect (as long as you were diligent at proofreading what you wrote before you saved it.

So, since around 1980 I have most of my writings still from 1980 until the present in 2025 in various forms one way or another. Then if I thought it was important enough I made printouts of my writings to keep them ongoing. When you have what you have written in printouts you are less likely to lose what you have written (even though much of my writings are ONLY online at this point because there is just so much I have written since 1980 now in various forms of writing.

So, I would say it isn't just about writing it is also about saving what you write and having respect for yourself as a writer so you save what you have written.

It's sort of like your family and friends that you care about. You wouldn't throw them away would you?

It's the same for your writings. One day you might sit down and what you have written might save your life or someone else's life.

This has personally happened to me more than once over the last 45 years since 1980 to 2025 so far.

By God's Grace
