I really enjoyed this cult Classic when it came out and often watch it through the years. I have seen this about 10 times likely so far because it reminds me of that era. However, a lot of people couldn't deal with it because it was TOO real for them.
What I mean by this is this is what boys in Suburbia are often like at that age and so to let their fantasy become real was what was the most important thing about this movie. It wasn't mature. It wasn't nice what was happening in this movie but often this is what suburban life does to boys especially of that era.
Now, when you bring Gender Stuff into this mix it really gets crazy too. So, I'm not surprised at some people still being bent out of shape by this movie.
However, I see this only as a heterosexual young male Fantasy movie of that era which I often think of in fond terms because those days are gone forever and in some ways the world now is even crazier in a bad way than this movie ever was.
This movie was just a pure Suburban heterosexual young male fantasy nothing more really than this.
However, every heterosexual man can likely relate to this movie, which is why it is a cult classic in the first place.
