I personally see Jesus as both a Buddha and a Christ as well as a Bodhisattva. However, there are other thoughts about this

As I have studied about Jesus and have learned that his real name in Aramaic was "Yesu or Yeshua" I realized how many things the western world doesn't seem to know about the Historical Jesus. Then I went to India and met a Friend who was literally a "Spiritual Friend" named Geshe Lobsang Gyatso who my family met in Santa Cruz, California before this in Bodhgaya, India and he told me about how Jesus after Resurrecting in Israel moved with his wife and eventually children to India and became a Guru named Saint Issa and lived until his middle 80s. So, Jesus, according to ancient records brought from Nalanda University (which was a knowledge store house a lot like the Library of Alexandria which also burned up only Nalanda University was burned up by a group of Muslims. There was so much knowledge and writings there that it burned for months once the Muslims set it on fire, so in this similar to the burning of the Library of Alexandria in Egypt by Julius Caesar (accidentally?) when Cleopatra killed herself with a poisonous Asp about the same time or the same day that the Library burned down there in Alexandria.

The point is it is obvious to me that Jesus' philosophy was much more like Buddha's than anything else I have ever read about in the Middle East. So, you can see the influence that Buddhism had on for example, Jesus' idea of Forgiveness which comes directly from Buddhist Compassion towards all living things in the universe.

Compassion and forgiveness are very similar if not exactly the same thing in two different cultures one in the middle East and one in India. Buddha was the Prince of Lumbini and expected to be a King but chose to be the Buddha instead as an adult. And Buddha lived around 2500 years ago about 500 years before Jesus.

Also, to the Hindus, Gautama Buddha is often thought of sort of like how Christians think of the Protestant Religion if they are Catholic. So, to many Hindus the principles of Buddhism are rooted in Brahman ways of thinking that go back 10,000 years in history or further.

AI Overview
No, Jesus is not considered a Buddha in mainstream Buddhist thought. While some Buddhists acknowledge similarities between the teachings and lives of Jesus and Buddha, and some even see Jesus as a Bodhisattva (a being destined to become a Buddha), he is not considered a Buddha in the traditional sense within Buddhism.
Here's why:
  • Distinct Teachings:
Buddhism centers on the path to enlightenment and liberation from suffering (Nirvana), achieved through practices like meditation and mindfulness, and emphasizes concepts like impermanence and non-self. Christianity, on the other hand, revolves around faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and the belief in salvation through his sacrifice and resurrection.

  • Historical and Cultural Context:
Buddhism originated in India, while Christianity developed in the Middle East. The historical and cultural contexts of their origins and development are distinct.
  • Unique Roles:
Buddhists view the Buddha as the founder of their religion and a fully enlightened being who has attained Nirvana. Christians view Jesus as the central figure of their faith, believed to be the Messiah and Son of God.
  • Bodhisattva Interpretation:
Some Buddhists see Jesus as a Bodhisattva, a being who has chosen to delay their own enlightenment to help others. This interpretation is not universally accepted within Buddhism and focuses more on the compassionate aspects of Jesus's teachings rather than equating him with the Buddha.
  • No Universal Buddhist View:
While some Buddhists may have a positive view of Jesus, there isn't a unified Buddhist perspective on him. Many Buddhists may not be familiar with the details of Christian beliefs or see Jesus as a figure of relevance to their own practice.
