A neighbor of ours in Santa Barbara sent us a picture of the erosion on our property on a hill in Santa Barbara. The good news is that it didn't affect our house on the couple of acres it is on on a hill. But, the bad news is that it went down the steep paved road and Eroded and washed away much of the ice plant that grows near there ocean and lives mostly on the moisture in the air. So, likely our landscaper will have to bring in some rocks or boulders to keep it from eroding where this happened. There looks to be erosions about a foot deep where mud and rocks washed over the paved road down the hill from too much water coming down and eroded the ice plant away and washed the ice plant down the hill.
This is extremely unusual for this much rain to fall this fast in Southern California where it would do something like this by the way and is concerning for every one in southern California who owns property anywhere down there now all 25 million people from Santa Barbara south to San Diego and even into the deserts of Southern California where if it rains this hard people are sure to die because there aren't any plants to hold the soil back barely at all when rain like this comes.
Nothing like this has happened since we owned this property starting around 2017 when my wife's stepfather passed away there at age 98. (her mother who actually bought this property passed away in 1999 at I believe 75 which is a few years younger than I am now.)
So, wish us luck in fixing all this damage before the next big rains. However, our landscaper is on top of this today so likely he will bring in boulders to hold back any more rain pretty good too, soon.
