So far the winds aren't so bad that it will bring down trees yet. But, with constant rain this constant when we get 18 to 21 mile per hour winds Thursday Friday and Saturday the soil will be saturated so trees might come down from the winds (gusts up to 50 or more miles per hour). Many homes including ours were without power from last Tuesday to Friday night at 9 pm Pacific time.
However, since all our Christmas guests have gone home to San Diego county and to Texas we likely will get a hotel room this time that accepts dogs like our Corgi to stay warm and be able to take showers and be comfortable. However, I will still have to drive home every 5 hours or so to refill our generator to preserve our food in two refrigerators. This generator at this point has likely paid for itself I figure during the last 3 years or so maybe 3 to 4 times because I paid 1500 dollars for it and it has saved 3 to 4 times that much food in our refrigerators since then.
So, if you can afford to buy a generator for power outages it might be something good to do IF you can use one safely without causing fires or electrical shorts or other problems along the way. So, you do need to know enough also not to get carbon monoxide poisoning which people get sometimes if they put their generators running in a garage or inside their house somewhere and this can easily be fatal especially if you go to sleep. with carbon monoxide coming into your bedroom.
So, they are great if you are safe and know what you are doing.
So, good luck!
