First $10 a gallon Gas in U.S.! (this is for real folks) Gorda, California south of Big Sur on Highway 1

I'm thinking that the rock slides that took out Highway 1 north of there at one point also took out the power lines to Gorda which might not have been replaced yet.

So, the ONLY WAY they can pump gas is by running Gasoline Generators which is why they have to charge $10 a gallon for gas.

I remember in the 1950s when the forest was on fire in the Sierras and the town we were driving through was supposed to completely burn up in the fire then so the gas station was selling ONLY 5 gallons of gas per car so we all didn't have to die in the fire. He only had a gasoline generator to power his gas pumps too at that point. There was one paved road out of the fire so we bought our 5 gallons of gas and kept driving south. I was 8 or 10 years old then but the smoke was in the air and everyone knew that gas station likely would soon be on fire so the gas station owner was pumping 5 gallons of gas for people as long as he could before the whole little town burned down then. Dad was likely driving our 1956 Century Buick that was likely relatively new then.
