The French Hantavirus patient has I think about a 50-50 chance of full recovery given present variables

It might be my question that:"Are her lungs working at all at this point?" and is she in a comatose state (hopefully?) because this might be horrific to experience otherwise. My father in law in the early 2000s was put into an induced coma for a week or more which saved his life then. So, hopefully this woman is unconscious because this would be potentially a less horrific experience than experiencing all this directly.

begin partial quote from:

Critically ill French hantavirus patient is on an artificial lung ...

He said the woman is on a life-support device that pumps blood through an artificial lung, providing it with oxygen and returning it to the body. The hope is that the device relieves enough pressure on the lungs and heart to give them some time to recover. Lescure called it "the final stage of supportive care."
