The main problem with Hantavirus (the Andes Version) is that it has a 42 day incubation period

 It's not like Covid where you usually know within a few days to a week whether you have it and then you can test for it.

So, lethal people might not be tested until they die or check themselves into a hospital 42 days later?

This could be a slow moving really awful thing for the world to deal with in the short or long term. 

And because even the people who work on the ship might be from literally any country on earth it is unlikely that most of these people will be in quarantine and might spread the virus especially to their families and friends in the meantime worldwide.
