It is not a good time to be an underprivileged kid in California. 900,000 kids who are on, I believe Medi-Cal, which is the states state version of Medi-Care will lose or have already lost their medical care through the state of California.
The reason I'm writing about this is that a teenage girl who was born with AIDS was crying on TV about how she was now going to die because she couldn't get medicine to keep her AIDS from killing her.
I think what our Governor is trying to do is not to fire state employees and to solve the financial crisis in California Government that way. However, I bet state employees would be glad to reduce their income slightly if it kept these 900,000 kids from dying from not having medical insurance. What do you think?
California got screwed by Enron and other out of state Energy companies. The Federal FERC would not help us during Governor Davis' term so we now can't finance the debt from the billions paid to unscrupulous out of state energy vendors like Enron. The finance charges on these billions have taken California to the edge of Bankruptcy. The problem is for Obama that 47 of the 50 states could go bankrupt within the next 5 years so showing favoritism to California might not work either. I think this is a much worse problem than Chrysler or GM to try to solve for Obama and the Federal Government. With California's Constitution and rules we may have no choice now but bankruptcy as a state. This could be bad not only for the U.S. but also the world because California is the 8th biggest economy on earth.
