As the Santana Winds and Temperatures increase through this weekend in Southern California
Fires could keep spreading at a rate of burning up New York's Central park every 15 minutes because of the speed of the winds throwing embers. IN a fire moving this fast the only escape is by car or truck or helicopter and then only if you have road to drive a car or can take off in a helicopter and see well enough not to hit anything like trees or power lines in the heavy smoke. But, in a fire moving this fast you simply cannot run fast enough to get away from a fast moving fire like this one has been so far. As the winds picked up in Ventura yesterday I believe the Ventura fire started sometime in the late afternoon in the mountains between Ojai and Ventura City.
