Our democracy at this point is only hanging on by a thread. For example, it will end if Mueller is fired and Trump declares martial law if that happened. We are that close to a Hitler type of outcome right now and even more close than we were with Nixon. We only got rid of Nixon's paranoia because we had a democratically controlled congress. With a Republican controlled congress it wouldn't take much to end our democracy and start the 2nd civil war by declaring martial law. It would be exactly the same thing that Erdogan did destroying Turkey's democracy the last couple of years after staging his own coup and then punishing the supposed perpetrators.By the way since this has already happened in Brexit in England and already happened screwing the middle class and poor through the tax bill, we are already 2/3 of the way to a Hitler type of outcome already. All we need now is the middle Class and poor to start rioting from what the Tax bill and getting rid of the individual mandate did to the average person and we would be there. So, Obama is very prescient in this statement because of Erdogan, Duterte, and Brexit already which all are causing a similar chaos as Trump and Moore now in other parts of the world. So, his statement is not just directed at Trump but towards nationalism worldwide. This is a worldwide phenomena and would naturally lead to world war just like world War II if we didn't have nuclear weapons. So, whatever happens will be incredibly convoluted because we all have nuclear weapons now instead.

Barack Obama invokes Hitler in warning against complacency and rising nativism
“We have to tend to this garden of democracy or else things could fall apart quickly,” Obama told the audience at the Economic Club of Chicago. “That’s what happened in Germany in the 1930s, which despite the democracy of the Weimar Republic and centuries of high-level cultural and scientific achievements, Adolph Hitler rose to dominate.”
“Sixty million people died…So, you’ve got to pay attention. And vote,” he further noted.
Though Obama didn’t specifically mention anyone other than Hitler, the comments were largely interpreted as being directed towards President Trump.
The apparent change in the United States’ approach to foreign policy has not gone unnoticed.
Sigmar Gabriel, Germany’s foreign minister, said on Tuesday that following the U.S. along its current path could diminish the West’s worldwide influence, according to Deutsche Welle.
“The U.S. no longer sees the world as a global community but as a fighting arena where everyone has to seek their own advantage,” Gabriel also commented. “Germany can no longer simply react to U.S. policy but must establish its own position…even after Trump leaves the White House, relations with the U.S. will never be the same.”
