I understand why he is doing this but export import has many moving parts in multiple directions. So, though doing this might hurt people importing solar panels and washing machines into the U.S. it is also going to hurt the U.S. in ways when other countries retaliate. So, likely as usual Trump hasn't thought this through completely.
He is always wanting simple solutions when they likely no longer exist in regard to world trade.
Instead Trump likely will only create a literal trade war with Asian countries that might reverberate and actually be the beginnings of a new Great Depression in the long run worldwide.
