Hawaii is sort of like being on another planet:

than being in mainland U.S.

It's a very different world than most places in the U.S. especially if you are on places like the more remote parts of the big island, Hawaii or on Maui or Kauai or other islands. The more remote you get the more you get the feeling of being on another planet from anywhere else on earth. If you look at a map Hawaii is as remote in it's own way as Antarctica and Alaska or Siberia to other locations on earth too. the Pacific Ocean is after all the biggest ocean of them all spanning over 6000 miles from many points in Asia to California, Oregon, Washington, Canada, Alaska and Mexico and points south of there. So, the experience here is sort of like no other I have ever experienced in my life. I suppose it might be similar in some ways to Tahiti or Fiji or other places as well. If you didn't have TV or Cell phones or internet, the whole rest of the world might nuke out one day and you might not even know it you are so far away from most things here on earth. So, being anywhere in the Hawaiian islands is a very amazing experience in this way always, especially if you are off the beaten path somewhere in the islands.

For example, though I saw on CNN with friends most of the important changes regarding the impeachment, here right now it is 11:19pm. In California it is 2:20 AM and on the east coast it is 5:20 AM at least. So, this too changes how you tend to look at everything to throught he prism of the Hawaiian islands. So, for example, we went out to eat at . Thai restaurant to night that closes at 9:30pm so we were still eating at 8PM (which is 11pm in California and 2 AM on the east coast) so this is very different too. And now, as I write and get ready for bed people are starting to get up to go to work Thursday morning and it isn't even midnight here yet in the islands!
