Geomagnetic Reversal?

  I don't believe the earth is going through a geomagnetic reversal because those don't happen very often (some say every 250,000 to 700,000 to 1,000,000 years depending upon the person). However, there is evidence that something is going on because the poles are now moving 40 miles per year. When I was young the North Pole was in Canada somewhere and now it is moving towards Siberia in Russia. At the turn of the 20th Century in 1900 the pole was moving about 5 miles a year which allowed navigation worldwide (especially in the Northern Hemisphere) to be based upon it. Now, however, we need GPS satellites for navigation because the magnetic North is moving too quickly to use for serious navigation now except in a completely emergency. 

So, this movement of the poles signifies "Something" is going on. What that something is right now is debatable. However, I am of the opinion that we are actually in the beginning of a "Magnetic Excursion". Another idea tied to 2012 involves a geomagnetic reversal (often incorrectly referred to as a pole shift by proponents), possibly triggered by a massive solar flare, that would release an energy equal to 100 billion atomic bombs.[106] This belief is supposedly supported by observations that the Earth's magnetic field is weakening,[107] which could precede a reversal of the north and south magnetic poles.

A geomagnetic excursion, like a geomagnetic reversal, is a significant change in the Earth's magnetic field. Unlike reversals however, an excursion does not permanently change the large-scale orientation of the field, but rather represents a dramatic, typically short-lived decrease in field intensity, with a variation in pole orientation of up to 45 degrees from the previous position. These events, which typically last a few thousand to a few tens of thousands of years, often involve declines in field strength to between 0 and 20% of normal. Causes

Scientific opinion is divided on what caused geomagnetic excursions. The dominant theory is that they are an inherent aspect of the dynamo processes that maintain the Earth's magnetic field. In computer simulations, it is observed that magnetic field lines can sometimes become tangled and disorganized through the chaotic motions of liquid metal in the Earth's core. In such cases, this spontaneous disorganization can cause decreases in the magnetic field as perceived at the Earth's surface. In truth, under this scenario, the Earth's magnetic field intensity does not significantly change in the core itself, but rather energy is transferred from a dipole configuration to higher order multipole moments which decay more rapidly with the distance from the Earth's core, so that the expression of such a magnetic field at the surface of the Earth would be considerably less, even without significant changes in the strength of the deep field. This scenario is supported by observed tangling and spontaneous disorganizations in the solar magnetic field. However, this process in the sun invariabily leads to a reversal of the solar magnetic field (see: solar cycle), and has never been observed such that the field would recover without large scale changes in field orientation.
The work of David Gubbins suggests that excursions occur when the magnetic field is reversed only within the liquid outer core; reversals occur when the inner core is also affected.[2] This fits well with observations of events within the current chron of reversals taking 3–7000 years to complete, while excursions typically last 500–3000 years. However, this timescale does not hold true for all events, and the need for separate generation of fields has been contested, since the changes can be spontaneously generated in mathematical models.
A minority opinion, held by such figures as Richard A. Muller, is that geomagnetic excursions are not a spontaneous processes but rather triggered by external events which directly disrupt the flow in the Earth's core. Such processes may include the arrival of continental slabs carried down into the mantle by the action of plate tectonics at subduction zones, the initiation of new mantle plumes from the core-mantle boundary, and possibly mantle-core shear forces and displacements resulting from very large impact events. Supporters of this theory hold that any of these events lead to a large scale disruption of the dynamo, effectively turning off the geomagnetic field for a period of time necessary for it to recover.
Except for recent periods of the geologic past, it is not well known how frequently geomagnetic excursions occur. Unlike geomagnetic reversals, which are easily detected by the change in field direction, the relatively short-lived excursions can be easily overlooked in long duration, coarsely resolved, records of past geomagnetic field intensity. Present knowledge suggests that they are around ten times more abundant than reversals, with up to 12 excursions documented within the current reversal period Brunhes–Matuyama reversal.

Effects

Since no excursions have been recorded within human history, it is unknown precisely what effects one would have. However, it is likely that nothing serious would occur, as the human species has certainly lived through at least one such event; Homo erectus and possibly Homo heidelbergensis lived through the Matuyama reversal with no known ill effect, and excursions are shorter lived and do not result in permanent changes to the magnetic field. The major hazard to modern society is likely to be similar to those associated with geomagnetic storms, where satellites and power supplies may be damaged, although compass navigation would also be affected. Some forms of life which are thought to navigate based on magnetic fields may be disrupted, but again it is suggested that these species have survived excursions in the past. Since excursion periods are not always global, any effect might well only be experienced in certain places, with others relatively unaffected. The time period involved could be as little as a century, or as much as 10,000 years.

Scientists who have studied the Laschamp excursion which was about 40,000 years ago note that Homo Erectus survived the Lachamp excursion even though they noted many other species didn't. Also, it reduces the magnetosphere sometimes to zero and creates holes. Both of these things (in that a hole is in effect a zero magnetosphere in that location). These holes have been observed moving around especially in the northern Hemsphere since the early 2000s. So, one of the reasons people are freaking out more about Solar Flares now than before is we don't always have a magnetosphere to protect at all locations on earth like we once did from harmful radiation that is similar to a mild nuclear fallout. So, this means that mutation or extinction of many species of creatures including humans could take place the next few thousand years. Whether these mutation are good, bad or neutral remains to be seen. So, I guess I am convinced that we are presently in a Geomagnetic excursion because of the increasing speed of the poles moving. Could be be in the slow process of a pole reversal? Possibly, but at the rate it is going (unless someone mathematically created a formula based upon the progression increase every year since 1900) we aren't going to know when it (the north magnetic pole)  might reach it's new south pole area location. So, presently a Geomagnetic excursion is what I believe is happening and has been happening with it's speed increasing since at the very least 1900 towards Siberia at present.

Also, what I find interesting is that there is evidence that a Geomagnetic Excursion also has extreme effects upon the weather because of the degraded magnetosphere with holes in it. So, some places the magnetosphere could be a Zero and some places it could be up to 20% if this thing really gets going in the next Century or 10 Centuries or more. This could drastically affect the weather in regard to floods and droughts and maybe explain things like Noahs Ark from Atlantis when it was washed beneath the waves.

For example, imagine a tsunami 100 feet high hitting Florida from the East or the West, basically everthing in Florida might be gone because a tsunami would roll right over Florida one direction or the other because of the nature of tsunami waves (which are completely different than normal ocean waves) and go into the ocean on the other side.

If you imagine Florida to be a new Atlantis that would make perfect sense of what happened to Atlantis and to Noah and his Ark.

Note: By the way I'm not saying anything like that is going to happen to Florida. I'm just using it as an example to explain Atlantis and Noah and his Ark because most of Florida is under 50 to 75 feet in elevation at ground level.
