Where I live about a mile or less from the ocean in Northern California the forests surround us with Pines, Redwoods and Oaks as well as many ferns and other plants and a full array of animals from deer, raccoon, birds of all sorts as well as the occasional bear and mountain lion sharing the forests here as well.
So, often I take my dogs the 1 mile by car to the trailheads and let them out so they can run up free on the fire roads and trails. The problem sometimes is people like to ride mountain bikes down these trails which are at most about 2 feet wide so you have to jump off into the underbrush not to cause them an accident or to get hit. So, if you see a mountain biker or a group of them coming down a trail you are on don't say anything to them because this could cause them an accident or be injurious or fatal to you as well. So, just getting out of the way and staying quiet allows them their concentration to avoid you. Just be sure they see you. If it looks like they don't see you yell, "Hey. I'm here!" but still get out of the way because they usually are going so fast they couldn't stop safely before they hit you.
Also, it is usually not legal for them to be on these trails also. But, often it is fathers or older brothers teaching younger brothers or children or siblings how to deal with unexpected events and to stay alive through it. Without this kind of training or something like it young men especially stay in a fantasy world without being able to deal with reality in a real way that serves them. So, even though this isn't legal it still is creating people who might be able to deal with anything like their forebears for thousands of years.
Today, I was just walking my older slightly senile 14 year old German Shepard-Australian Shepard mix(the smartest dog I ever knew) and my daughter's corgi up the trail when two adult riders came down the trail at full speed. I didn't say anything but moved my Shepard out of the way, called my corgi by name and grabbed her collar because she is deathly afraid of bikes. I didn't want her to run a mile or more back to the car and maybe get hit by another car or something. I was lucky she didn't run away from the bikes but she is getting better with age and doesn't spook as bad and usually listens to me now more than before.
Another thing interesting about Mountain bikes is that they handle a lot like dirt motorcycles in that you simply cannot use the front brake and still steer the thing without going down with it if you are on a dirt or rock road or trail. So, remember to only use your back brake so you can still steer. And don't leave it full on unless you want to stop suddenly because you will be skidding with the back tire over whatever obstacles like branches or roots as you do this.
I found out yesterday that my KLR 650 dualsport motorcycle has a flat front tire. I haven't had to deal with something like this in years. What this means in real time is I either have to build a 2 by 4 tripod and to rope or tie the front end of the motorcycle to it while I lift it and take the front wheel off to take it to a motorcycle shop to repair it or another option. Luckily, this day I had a lady visiting my wife who works with motorcycle parts as an office manager and told me about what was going on inside my tire or valve. It seems like dirt bikes or dualsports now have foam inside their tires now so a flat doesn't necessary kill you when it happens. This means that the rubber foam inside is in addition to any air pressure there. So, when I tried to refill it with an electric air pump I couldn't. So, what happens now is either I make a 2 by 4 tripod and hoist the front end up on this and take the front wheel to a motorcycle shop or I rent a trailer and put the motorcycle on it and tow the whole thing to a motorcycle shop. Since my motorcycle needs servicing in addition to fixing the tire I likely am eventually going for the latter idea even though it is more expensive to fix your tire this way. But this is also a pretty busy summer so it is going to have to wait likely until August some time.
