The Fifth Estate

Note: It is kind of funny to me that this is the name of Julian Assange's movie on Wikileaks because in 1963 when I was a surfer and 15 years old I would drive over to Sunset Strip in Hollywood from Glendale where I went to Glendale High School and hang out at "The Fifth Estate" on the Sunset Strip. Because they didn't serve alcohol and were only a coffee house with entertainment I could get in there at age 15. We watched avante garde movies on the walls and played chess there and met interesting Beatniks at the time. Surfers were very philosophical and searching for the 'meaning of life' then by traveling all over the world searching for the "Perfect Wave" so philosophically we had a lot in common with the beatniks then in some ways. In fact part of the non-drug philosophy of hippies came from beatniks and Surfers that existed before the Flower children that started in 1965 in San Francisco. So, often all these types of intelligent people were friends in High School and in College and throughout their lives to now.

What I find interesting about all this is simply: "Figures don't lie but liars use figures". Since this is absolutely true facts can be misleading in a variety of ways. So facts, presented by different people are going to mean different things.

Let me give you an example, "You and I and everyone we know could be classified as either good, bad, or neutral in any given situation depending upon what facts people compile about us. And this is literally true of everyone on earth.

So, HOW facts are compiled and how they are desseminated and by who are extremely important. In other words why is certain information being released? And will that information kill people? And if that information that is going to be released is going to cause human deaths or untold human suffering then why is it being released? These are all important question to ask regarding Wikileaks and Julian Assange

However, here is the problem with this. Most people are not discerning enough to understand fully this problem and will go off half cocked into unknown territory (for the world) if certain information is released in drips and drabs over time. For example, what if your most amazing sexual experience in your life was with someone who was married to someone else or at a very different age than you or even maybe a cousin or something like that? Would you want this information released? And if it was what if it killed or completely destroyed your life or others? These are the kinds of questions that need to be asked of a release of thousands of documents (the biggest Illegal release of documents at one time in the history of the U.S.) So, what did that just do to millions of innocent (and some not so innocent)  lives across the world? This is what Wikileaks did to millions of lives around the world. And many either are over from it or never will be the same.
