Physicists say universe may be 2 dimensional rather than 3

I was having an interesting conversation with my older daughter about this.

Now, please don't read this if you are in some fragile state of mind because it could be disturbing to think about if you aren't used to thinking in this way.

First of all, if the universe is indeed 2 dimensional rather than 3 dimentional it would be like an infinitely large piece of paper so instead of an 8 by 11 piece of paper imagine one that could 2 dimensionally contain all the galaxies in the universe and us here on earth. Imagine the earth also as flat as this paper too as well as the sun, the moon and all the planets too. Imagine yourself and all life on earth flat as a piece of paper too.

So, how come we perceive three dimensions? My daughter explained her theory about this in a sort of bubble of awareness sort of like a holographic screen we project around ourselves to make us believe everything is actually 3 dimensional.

I told her her way of perceiving this didn't really work for me because my way is to perceive that there is only one being in the universe of which all life is composed and we are all each one of the trillions of sparks of light on the facets of that diamond. But, because there is only one being in the whole universe we exist on all planes of the gigantic piece of paper that the universe is all at once. However, that is too confusing to be everywhere at once so we invent time and space so we can just be one place at once while time passes. However, theoretically because we are also all beings in the universe because there is only one after all that we might experience what all beings experience in the universe eventually throughout all time and space.

Hopefully that was helpful to all of you who chose to read that.

The one thing my daughter and I agreed on was that all the lifetimes we ever live are lived at the same time and that any separation is actually an illusion coming from our belief that time actually exists which it doesn't.

In other words time is something that we invent in order to live as human beings on earth but to our souls time has no meaning at all.

You can call this a philosophical discussion or a metaphysical discussion but if you find it too disturbing to contemplate maybe forgetting what you read here might be useful to you.
