An Arcstorm would cause much more damage than an earthquake to California

The reason for this is first of all, an arcstorm like California received in 1862 and which the western states receive (AT LEAST) once every 150 to 300 years like clockwork, doesn't just affect California but also Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Idaho etc. So, the problem is very widespread. So, the USGS and FEMA are planning for such an event any time now to 150 years from now.

I believe this is the main reason why no large cities were present on the west coast of the United States or Canada when explorers first arrived in the 1500s and 1600s. The reason being that every 150 to 300 years any cities near rivers would simply be "Washed away" in flash floods up to 30 feet deep. Evidence of these floods is in the rivers throughout the Western U.S. studied by geologists.

So, we must expect and prepare for this event that could happen anytime between now and 150 years from now because historically this is inevitable to happen every 150 to 300 years ongoing. Likely people will choose mostly to live away from rivers in cities after the next one hits if they are building for long term businesses or residency, especially in California but also throughout the west coast states.

It is presently 153 years after the last one.

Interestingly enough, it says in Wikipedia that this event was not caused by an El Nino. However, it is my belief that this could come also from an El Nino event. However, I'm not a meteorologist but only someone who has done a lot of research about these historical events every 150 to 300 years for thousands of years now. There might be verbal records or pictograms from native Americans of previous Arcstorms as pictures or stories passed down through the centuries.

The Great Flood of 1862 was the largest flood in the recorded history of Oregon, Nevada, and California, occurring from December 1861 to January 1862. It was preceded by weeks of continuous rains (or snows in the very high elevations) that began in Oregon in November 1861 and continued into January 1862. This was followed by a record amount of rain from January 9–12, and contributed to a flood which extended from the Columbia River southward in western Oregon, and through California to San Diego, and extended as far inland as Idaho in the Washington Territory, Nevada and Utah in the Utah Territory, and Arizona in the western New Mexico Territory.
