The Coming 9.0? Cascadia Earthquake

  1. There is an uneasiness in the Air in Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington because they are worried about a predicted 9.0 earthquake that they call "The Cascadia Earthquake" which geologists predict will be likely a 9.0.

I watched a documentary with my daughter about it. A geologist was able to find a place next to a river where he could "SEE" where previous cascadia quakes have occurred. They occur with a certain amount of regularity somewhat like the 150 to 300 year floods like the one California (and the west Coast States) had in 1862 that is sometimes called "The Great Flood of 1862 which closed the capital in Sacramento, bankrupted the State and moved the state capitol temporarily to San Francisco by boat and kept Sacramento 6 months underwater.

However, Cascadia earthquakes and Tsunamis (Tidal Waves) (which also usually harm Japan and other countries and state likes Hawaii and California too, sends out a large tsunami during these really large 9.0 regular quakes at intervals of mostly 300 years (right about now) to 1000 years (700 years from now). However, the last 2 or three have been only 300 years apart.

(At least I realize now why I was feeling this "Earthquake" kind of feeling when I first got to Portland this time. Whether it was the people being scared or the land getting ready for something like this it would be hard for me at present to separate the two from each other. However, if an actual earthquake is going to occur I usually get nauseous just before it happens. And I haven't felt that way yet. So, likely it is the general fear of the populace about all this and getting ready to go to higher ground when they start to feel any shaking at all to survive the thing.

They expect that just about everything West of Interstate 5 is going to get pretty messed up by the Cascadia event when this occurs in Oregon and Washington and possibly even in Canada too. I watched a graphic of what they expect to happen and it extends from Northern California coast all the way up into Canada way up past Vancouver. And they expect tidal waves to likely mess up places throughout the Pacific to at least 100 feet high in altitude when the tsunami hits each island from the north east.
