This is a very good thing:
Majority of EU nations seek opt-out from growing GM crops

EU member states have requested opt-outs for all or part of their
territory from cultivation of a Monsanto genetically-modified crop,

The real problem with GMO crops and GMO animals is that they are not suited for people to get nutritional benefit from.
There may come a time when this might be developed properly. However, we are probably about 100 years from then now.
For now, GMO crops are killing people all over and they don't know what is killing them from allergies because they aren't being told which of their foods are GMO. In the U.S. there is only one state that has rules in labeling for all GMO products in place. Until we have this in all 50 states people cannot sue companies like Monsanto for wrongful deaths of their loved ones from GMOs that kill them usually within one months time.
Also, if people consume enough GMO organisms they may become sterile within 2 generations and unable to bear children.
So, I also tend to see GMO as a way to kill people and a way to thin out the population through lack of education. So, as people become unable to breed more only the rich who know about this will be alive.
The third problem with GMOs is it is a way to patent a seed that will die after the first year. So, it is a way to force farmers to buy GMO seeds every year instead of harvesting their own seeds in the fields with other varieties. So, it is a way to force people not to have access to their own seeds legally by large GMO corporations like Monsanto.
