    Mt. Shasta area, Calif.
The National Weather Service is predicting “a very wet and potent system” to move into the Mt. Shasta area Wednesday night, Dec. 9.
Precipitation is predicted to continue through Thursday evening with snow levels starting around 6,000 to 7,000 feet then lowering to 4,000 to 4,500 feet by late Thursday morning.
Light snow is predicted to “continue into the weekend... with more heavy snow possible this weekend,” according to a NWS Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 4 p.m. Thursday to 4 a.m. Friday.
Snow accumulations during that time are predicted at 3 to 5 inches at elevations between 4,000 and 4,500 feet and 8 to 10 inches above 5,000 feet.
The NWS has also issued a High Wind Warning for areas of South Central Siskiyou County above 5,000 feet from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. Thursday.
A high wind warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected with sustained wind speeds of at least 50 miles per hour or gusts of 75 mph or more.
