Why is this?
I think it is the experimental nature of people in California, especially those that live along the coast of California up and down the coast. There is something about Coastal Californians where if there is religion it is more about "Progressive Spontaneous revelation" and if it is about Science you see science and religion getting along much better than other places on earth. So, if you don't want people to kill each other over conflicts between Science and religion or religion against religion maybe you should visit California to see what we are doing right here?
In the end where there are conflicts it is fundamentalist religious people against fundamentalist Scientific people. This is where conflicts can arise. There are also conflicts between fundamentalists of various religions and sects around the world too.
But, I think there is much more tolerance for more points of view in California because so many along the coast have college degrees from public colleges and universities and as a result they have been exposed to something about all religions and all sciences as a direct result. So, there is nothing spooky about Any religion that they haven't already studied and there isn't anything spooky about any science because they have already studied about it.
I believe a public education is the thing away from religious schools to foster both tolerance and understanding worldwide.
So, like I said before if you want to see how to get people of diverse religions and diverse scientific points of view get along without them all killing each other, come to California to see how it's done.
