This is the story of a Medicine man in earnest. It is not the story of you and I as students of medicine men or women like this. This type of person is willing to die for what they believe during their vision quest. Though this might be true of you and I this is not always the case.
This took place in the area of Glacier National Park.
This was the vision quest of the teacher of one of my teacher's that prayed for me while I did my vision quest in 1983.
A Vision quest in the tradition I studied means no water and no food for 4 days and nights while praying constantly for the visions you need to guide your life for the betterment of all beings under God. Wakon Tonka is the Great Moving Spirit of God that moves on the Wind across the Plains of the United States.
He went for his vision quest in a place known to benefit his tribe and all beings which is the mark of a Great Medicine man or woman. He saw after 4 days that his visions would not come just after 4 days so he went 8 days without water or food. In the first part he set up a tent because it was cold. A Bald eagle came and ripped up his tent to shreds. He took his sleeping bag and took some of the Bald Eagles feathers but not so many that he could not fly away.
4 days later on the 8th day a Bear came to taste him. It tasted his arms and head and realized he was starving and not good to eat. So, the medicine man lived to become a great teacher and practitioner of being a true medicine man.
He stayed still knowing he was too tired from no food or water to run and also knew the bear was his medicine.
This is the type of vision quest many real Medicine men and women have.
