Donald Trump tried to rally black votes by emphasizing the plight of the African-American community, in ways only he can.
(Gerald Herbert/AP)Donald Trump continued his less-than-sincere-sounding appeal to African-American voters Friday and vowed to win over a demographic he has largely ignored until this week.
The GOP nominee said that if elected he will be so good for black Americans that “at the end of four years I guarantee you I will get over 95% of the African-American vote.”
The prediction would be quite an accomplishment seeing as Trump is currently polling around 1% with black voters.

“What do you lose by trying something new like Trump?” the troubled tycoon told a boisterous crowd in Dimondale, Mich. “What the hell do you have to lose?” he asked.
Trump recently started addressing African-American voters in a bid to right his listing presidential campaign.
The self-proclaimed billionaire spoke to deteriorating conditions in Detroit and other big cities, blaming rival Hillary Clinton and other Democrats for high unemployment, poverty and bad schools.
“You’re living in poverty, you have no jobs, 58% of your youth is unemployed,” Trump said. “What the hell do you have to lose?”

It’s unclear where the number-challenged candidate gets his information, but the jobless rate among black youths is closer to 20%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Donald Trump, currently polling at 1% of the black vote, thinks he'll be so good for black Americans that most will want to re-elect him.

Most polls show Trump trailing Clinton significantly among black voters in particular, though Trump has repeatedly claimed that has strong support from the demographic.

“I am the change agent,” Trump said later in his rambling speech. “I am your messenger.”
