Why? Simply because the price of oil while all this was going on would be 200 dollars a barrel or more and there is simply no way to predict how long all this could go on in time. 5 years of 200 plus dollars a barrel would remove from power most 3rd world governments on earth. Why?
Because half of the people in all 3rd world countries would be starving because food would be too expensive to move for them to buy. 3 days without food and they riot or get their guns (or their rakes) and fight. 5 to 10 days without food and the children start dying especially the little ones.
People think this is going to be over quickly. This isn't Iraq. This would be a life or death struggle for the whole Persian Civilization going back to 500 BC. It would also create a life or death struggle out into the open between Sunnis and Shias around the world.
The only real counterbalance to Saudi Arabia running amuck is actually Iran. If you think removing Saddam from the Middle east messed things up just imagine it getting 100 times worse if the U.S. attacks Iran.
