Protectionism as paranoia was one of the causes of World War II.When that war ended people realized (especially in the U.S.) that the whole world needed to work together more economically. So, this is what we did worldwide since 1945 with the United Nations and in other ways.
But, Trump is now ending all this taking us back to protectionist ways which can ONLY in the end create a world wide recession (which most of the world is already in by the way) or a world Wide Great Depression.
Protectionism is sort of a cyclical paranoia that people get into periodically. But, once again all it brings in the end is a lot of deaths either through war or starvation and usually both worldwide.
