I experienced Maitreya heaven when I was around Ling Rinpoche. I was taken to where he was in about January 1986 in Dharamshala India when I was sent to see him by a monk who had been shown to take us to see him. So, after hiking for an hour or two above where Dharamshala is up into the mountains several miles with my family we were taken by this monk who was showing us the way as Tibetan Lamas had told him to take us there. So, we saw this little stone house with a slate roof and we were ushered inside and two monks were tending Ling Rinpoche who was the senior Teacher of the Dalai Lama and who ran Tibet until the Dalai Lama was old enough to rule Tibet. He was sitting in the Maitreya mudra blessing position with his left hand in his lap and his right hand lifted palm forward in a blessing position. We might greet people with our hand like this in a wave sometimes. But, in this meditative sense he was sending blessings back from the heaven realm he was in then which was Maitreya heaven. This experience changed my life incredibly because my father had just passed away about 6 months before and here was Ling Rinpoche sending back Maitreya Heaven energy direct from the other side.
I asked if he was coming back from this deep meditation and the monks said "no". we also met the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama's Junior Tutor Trijang Rinpoche who was then about 4 or 5 years old. He hit my head with the Dorje so hard that I thought I might pass out and then I laughed at the situation. A Dorje is used to cut away negative karma to make you Bodhisattva and realized quicker to help all life in the universe to enlightenment.
So, meeting Trijang Rinpoche and Ling Rinpoche completely changed my life in many different ways in that I became a part of Maitreya Heaven here on earth. This likely was possible because of my living with Angels all my life since I saw the Archangels heal me from whooping cough at age 2.
The one thing that I noticed with Tibetan Buddhist Lamas and monks, especially reincarnated Tulkus like the Dalai Lama is that time and space alters a lot when you are around them.
They would call it "Turning the Dharma Wheel" in this context. This moves each of us into saving mankind and all life from itself and healing the universe with infinite compassion.
I guess there is much more to the Maitreya mudras than I was previously aware. Here is what came up on Google images when I put in "Maitreya Mudra".
