HONG KONG (AP) — Beijing has reported its first local omicron infection, according to state media, weeks before the Winter Olympic Games are due to start. The infected person lives and works in the city's northwestern district of Haidian and had no travel history outside of Beijing for the past two weeks.1 hour ago

What's interesting to me is that this started in Xi'an and then moved onto Tianjin, China and now they have Covid in Beijing. Goldman Sachs thinks China will lose more money trying to continue the Zero Covid policy that they are now because it's going to completely screw up their supply chain and any other countries that depend upon them economically regarding trade. Goldman Sachs already reduced their expected growth down to about 4.3% this year with the possibility that it will go down actually to 4.2% mainly because their Zero Covid policy is unproductive. They said that 4.3% is about half of their growth rate last year.
The other problem is Chinese citizens have NO immunity to Omicron or any other variant because of the way they have handled things there. So, this could be a literal bloodbath for China on many many levels because their Sinovac vaccine is not effective against Omicron. However, even if one million or more Chinese die from Covid you likely won't hear about it because of the way that they censor the news.
I don't think ANY country including China is any match at all for the contagiousness of Omicron. So, omicron could be China's Waterloo in this respect during the next few months time.
