It started for my wife and I when my son who lived in South Korea near Seoul, S. Korea told us about how they filter their air in their high rise apartment 24 hours a day because of the particles coming over the Yellow sea from Beijing towards Seoul on the prevailing winds. They recommended South Korean Air filter system called Winix. So, we bought one for ourselves near San Francisco on the coast. We immediately noticed that my wife no longer had AN'Y allergies from oak pollen or pine pollen or even Acacia pollen which also is awful for both my wife and I as long as we ran our Winix 24 hours a day on low so it isn't too loud.
Then in Mt. Shasta we found our friends who we rented their home and also sometimes their guest house that they had an Austin Air filtration system. The advantage is that the American Made Austin only has to have the filter changed every 5 years if you don't have too much dust or pollen or dust or smoke where you live during the year.
But, in Asia where the Winix is designed for the particulates are extreme that they deal with certain times of the year coming over from Beijing from coal dust and smoke and things like this. So, there are several layers of filters in a Winix system.
So far we have one Austin in our living room and my daughter has a Winix in her bedroom and my wife and I have a Winix in our bedroom. So, we have 3 Air filtration systems in our home and we also have one in Santa Barbara too when we go down there.
I have found the most important Air filtration needs to be where you sleep. This is the most helpful regarding pollen and dust and any smoke from fires where you live here in the U.S.
If you are in Asia likely you will be better off with a Winix Air filtration system even though some of the filters have to be replaced as often as every two months (some of the layers). But, this is necessary if you are in Asia because of the particulates of Coal and other pollution problems there.
But, also coming across the pacific Ocean from Asia rain and the ocean cleans the air a lot so it's pretty clear generally speaking by the time it gets to Califronia heading eastward on the prevailing winds. So, in California you need a filtration system for dust and pollen and mold and smoke for California which has completely different problems than you might find in Asia.
For example, in Asia people burn cow dung in places like India and when I was there in 1985 and 1986 they were also burning dried cow dung and plastic (like plastic bottles) when I was there. Of course all this might have changed since then.
But, the point is that burning things to cook or to stay warm is much more common in Asia than here like everything from Coal or Cow dung. Wood isn't usually burned much in Asia simply because it is too valuable to do that for most people. It is more used for building and things like this. Or people build or make things to sell with wood rather than burning it. So, it is much more valuable generally than here in the U.S.
