Last Summer my wife and I considered buying a New Mercedes

We had given my wife's 2009 Lexus SUV to my son when he came back from South Korea and Moved to the Mainland U.S. again with his family. So, we bought a Forrester all wheel drive in 2018 because we loved out daughter's Forrester. I'm very tall around 6 feet 5 inches tall so i need leg room and Forrester's have this plus they are one of the best all wheel drives in the snow (as long as it isn't too deep). However, my wife and I are older and we noticed that trying to drive to Portland Oregon wasn't as smooth for us as we wanted.

So, we went to our local Mercedes dealer to see what they had. (But we didn't know about the Computer Chip debacle and what it had done to car dealerships around the world.

The dealer wanted to sell us a 4 cylinder car and I wasn't interested. I wanted to know where the 6 and 8 cylinder vehicles were. She then proceeded to tell us about the chip problem and how she couldn't get anything she wanted and we would have to wait 6 months or more to get exactly what we wanted because of worldwide chip shortages.

When I drove the 4 cylinder I didn't want it. There was a 3 to 5 second delay when I pushed the throttle ot the floor and so I didn't want that in an emergency when you need power to survive a bad situation. I just considered the 4 cylinder a "Dangerous Car" and didn't want it at all.

At this point we gave up our idea of owning a Mercedes since we couldn't get what we wanted and didn't want to wait 6 months for something.

This is exactly why new and used Cars and trucks now cost 25% to 35% more around the world (just because of no chips to manufacture cars and trucks). So, NO ONE can get what they want regarding a new or used car at an affordable price now.

Luckily, we have two perfectly good cars and our kids have good cars and I have a truck that is a 4 wheel drive that I likely would have replaced. But, luckily it likely has 200,000 or 300,000 miles left in it so I'm keeping my truck for now.

This is what a lot of people worldwide are doing. Rather than paying 25% or 35% more than the car or truck is worth just keep what you have and take good care of it for now.
