One method to start meditating is to search for the source of your thoughts

What I find happens using this Buddhist form of meditation is that you are not concerned with what is coming out of your mind so your mind is going to be literally "Throwing up all sorts of things" to get rid of these things). So, in some ways it is like throwing out your trash into your trash receptacle.

One of my Tibetan Lama teachers put it this way: "You need to be an empty cup in order to be filled with something new".

I like this way of looking at it. So, all you are concerned about here is searching for the source of your thoughts and in the process this tends to heal your mind in many ways because you aren't really concerned about what comes out only searching for the source of your own thoughts.

It can be very healing and revealing in many different ways in healing your mind and moving you towards enlightenment.

However, this is a fairly advanced method and you might want to start with something easier like using a mantra and visualizing something like looking at the ocean or watching a babbling brook or meditating on a candle or something like this to learn how to focus your mind in various ways.

However, many forms of meditating are very healing in various ways because it teaches you to be mindful of the now.

Many people spend their whole lives lost in the past or future and never really living their lives in the now.

The NOW is all we really have because the past and the future are both illusions and not as useful as the NOW.
