Yahoo sort of began Internet Service if we are realistic about how all this started. So, dial up phone internet with AOL and Yahoo was likely how it all started publicly at least

So, if I take this seriously one could say that the Internet as we now know it began publicly with Yahoo and AOL in 1994.
