My thought is that what takes off roofs during a hurricane or tornado likely is the wind getting up and under the eves and getting leverage and then peeling off the roofs. Then with the structure weakened with the whole roof swept away other walls are more vulnerable too. However, even if you still have your walls, rain will totally destroy anything left once the roof is gone.
So, it's possible that building a circular home might save you from losing it in a hurricane.
However, it is my thought that unless your whole home is made out of Cement and Metal that no matter how you build with wood the winds will increase until they blow your home down.
So, you need a good design and then build at least 100 feet higher than a flood plain and then if it is cement and metal it might survive the next 50 to 100 years. If you don't build with cement and metal then good luck because I presently believe all wooden buildings will blow down this century pretty much worldwide because of the increasing winds forecast for everywhere basically.
