My son is now 50 years old with a wife and son of his own. But, when we were homeschooling for 5 years for him and his brother and sister he taught himself to read mostly by asking me questions about his dungeons and dragons books. As he grew up he first learned to program in Basic and created his own games on our TRS 80. Then in 1987 when he was 13 he began to program on an AT Computer and later on the Pentiums. Then he got interested in building custom desktop computers for himself and his friends and relatives. He later Got a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing. He and his family now live in Oregon.
But Dungeons and Dragons (the pictures) he would ask as a 5 year old what the pictures were and learned the words and taught himself to read and write a lot until he returned to a regular school when he was about 10 years old after we lived remotely 10 miles from the nearest gas station at 4000 feet elevation with a beautiful view of Mt. Shasta. It used to snow 7 feet of snow at a time so I built us an A-Frame which can shed about 12 feet of snow even if no one is there to shovel the snow off the roof. It was a very good life and one of the reasons I'm still alive now at 77 soon this spring. What an Amazing Life!
