NOTE: I realized after writing this below I alluded to this being a nurse at a pharmacy authorized to give Measles and other shots like Covid shots. So, I realized I should introduce her at least so you know what is actually going on from the start.
She said "If you have herd immunity at all from the 1950s when everyone that didn't have a measles shot had to have herd immunity or die basically, then you don't want this measles shot at age 77. It is not recommended and since you lived through the 1950s without getting measles or getting a measles shot you likely shouldn't get one now."
We had asked permission of my heart specialist but his specialty isn't like an innoculation nurse at the local pharmacy who is trying to keep her patients alive and out of the hospital by not giving them shots that might kill them over 70 especially.
She also said, "The Measles shots from 1963 to 1967 were not effective at all. So, if you got one of those and don't also have herd immunity then maybe get a measles shot but not at my age which is 77."
So, basically because I didn't have a measles shot or measles during the 1950s when people were going blind from Measles a lot and even my best friend in Junior High and High school had to wear leg braces from polio but had really strong arms so he won the rope climb record at our Junior high school because he didn't use his legs at all just his arms and no one could beat his record for 25 years. He just started with his legs straight out on the floor and used his arms alone and "Bip" he did it really really fast. Faster than anyone I have seen to this before or since.
So, the nurse basically said I had to have herd immunity from the 1950s so getting a shot might make me really sick now and I likely was immune to measles innocuated by herd immunity in the 1950s when EVERYONE had the measles then in the country below about age 12 and many people had polio and died or were messed up for it temporarily or permanently then too.
It was a real horror show between measles making people blind and dead and Polio making people crippled and sometimes dead then too.
Our lifespan as Americans is almost 10 years more now since the innoculations for whooping cough and measles and polio have been around. Many more people live useful lives since they were invented.
They are far from perfect but if you have seen what I did growing up you might think differently than you might right now.
