DUH! This to me is the cruelest aspect of Trump and Musk and how they ONLY think of money and not of the deaths they have and will cause. For example, if you deport someone to a country they have never been to as adults often they die of one cause or another because they don't speak the language and can't survive there without help. So, they die.
However, the same is true of people starving around the world when the US AID was cut off they have been starving to death literally since Trump came into office and since Musk has been dismantling every kind of aid for people to survive nationwide and worldwide.
begin quotes:
Bill Gates has stated that the
cuts to U.S. foreign aid made by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE),
a federal advisory group led by Elon Musk, will cause millions of
deaths. The statement has nothing to do with the cryptocurrency
Dogecoin. Gates's
accusation is that the cuts to the U.S. Agency for International
Development (USAID) jeopardized vital global health programs,
particularly those for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, and could lead
to a resurgence of diseases like polio and measles.
Key points of the controversy:
- DOGE Cuts: Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) dismantled most of USAID's programs, with Musk boasting online about "feeding it into the woodchipper".
- Misguided Cuts: Gates specifically highlighted cuts to a hospital in the Gaza Province of Mozambique, which provided medication to prevent mothers from transmitting HIV to their babies. He claimed that the people doing the cutting were "geographically illiterate" and mistakenly believed the money was funding "condoms for Hamas" in the Gaza Strip.
- Projected Deaths: Gates stated that if U.S. foreign aid spending is not reinstated, millions of lives are at risk, with one study published in The Lancet suggesting the cuts could lead to 14 million avoidable deaths by 2030.
- Musk's Response: Elon Musk rejected Gates's claims, calling him a "huge liar" and demanding evidence of the harm caused by the cuts.
Gates
announced in May 2025 that he plans to increase spending by the Bill
& Melinda Gates Foundation to help compensate for the reduced
government support, though he stressed that private philanthropy cannot
fully replace government funding.
