I find being away from the Maddening Crowd is helpful

When you are on the mainland all the harm being done to our democracy is hard to watch. One wonders whether Democracy is gone for good or not?

The world is changing and it seems to me to be not in a good way at all.

We seem to be in another place just like the Great Depression and World War II where millions and millions of people are going to die.

So, the whole thing appears to be: "How do I not be one of the millions who die?"

Yes. This is the question really now here on earth.

For Americans it was less a question for a very long time since the Viet Nam War at least for young men.

But, when the draft ended around December 7th 1973 things changed a lot.

More young men my age (born 1948) died in Viet Nam than any other age group.

50,000 young men and women died in the Viet Nam War and countless others have died because of that war ever since.

About 2.7 million men and women served as soldiers in Viet nam in some capacity and many of their deaths were caused by the Viet Nam War already from injuries and PTSD.

So, this is a very personal issue to me that so many young men my age died over there for What?

So, now it is "How do you keep from Starving to death while Trump is president worldwide?" Or "How to do you not get deported as an illegal Alien to somewhere you have never been before only to starve to death there with no one you know?"

So, right now, the world seems very cruel indeed with Trump as President.

However, it is also true that most places on earth are ruled by Dictators which are actually likely more common than duly elected legally run democracies with human rights.

So, the question still is: "How do you not starve to death and how do you survive Trump with you and your family without him killing you all one way or another?"

This is the question for all Americans at this point in time.

I think the Government shutdown is a good example of just how Dangerous Trump actually is to anyone below the 50% margin of Wealth in our Country.

Right now statistically 50% of expenditures are made by the top 10% of the country.

There's not real middle Class anymore.

Just rich and poor and that's all.

It's the opposite of the 1950s here in 2025 when a white 17 year old man could get a job as a garbage man or carpenter and buy a house, own two or more cars and support about 5 people easily.

Something to think about.

regarding the end of the draft:

begin quote:

The draft ended on
January 27, 1973, when Defense Secretary Melvin R. Laird announced the end of conscription, transitioning the U.S. military to an all-volunteer force. Although the last draft call was on December 7, 1972, the authority to induct officially expired on June 30, 1973, six months after the announcement ended the draft.
  • End of conscription: The announcement by Laird on January 27, 1973, effectively ended the draft, with President Nixon's authority to conscript troops expiring later that year.
