When I traveled to India and Nepal and Thailand in 1985 and 1986 I wasn't prepared for the Culture shock. Even when I landed at Narito Airport near Tokyo, Japan on December 11th 1985 with my family there was someone who was acting strange in the Airport, a man. I couldn't tell if he was mentally ill or had other problems or whether his actions were normal or what exactly was going on. However, if we had been in the U.S. his behavior would not be acceptable. However, when you are in a non-Christian country often you have no idea what is going on most of the time.
So, your personal survival often depends upon "When in Rome do as the Romans do." If you don't function like this often you might not survive the experience.
