What is the single most important thing to know while doing electrical work?
Don't wear gold or silver necklaces while doing electrical work. Why?
Because a necklace will kill you if you are wearing one and get shocked through it.
And a ring might burn off your finger completely if you get a shock through it.
Then the next thing to know is don't stand in water while you are doing electrical work.
The next thing to know is if you are allowed to turn off the power to what you are working on.
If you are on a ladder while you are doing electrical work with the power on you could easily die if you get shocked and are blown off the ladder from the shock.
110 isn't always fatal in fact as an electrician with my father growing up I was shocked by 110 volts many many times. However, 220 is sometimes fatal because it is a lot for your body to deal with.
I wouldn't EVER work on 220 with the power on because of this.
However, if you are a professional electrician you might survive this because you know more than the average person about all this.
Once I was working at KCET in Los Angeles with my father and putting in a new 440 panel so I was working hot on 440 volts trying to put a large wire into a clamp to stay permently.
I made a mistake and my screwdriver burned in half and it put droplets of metal from the screwdriver all over my face sort of like an Arc welder would without a face plate.
So, I was blind and all I could see was a big blue flash in my eyes. Luckily my eyesight came back over the next few hours and days but in that moment my father took me over to some steps and had me sit down because I had blown off the TV Public Station KCET off the air. So, he had it repaired in a few minutes time because he was the electrical contractor doing this job and I was his student.
So, don't underestimate the dangers of electrical work because you can easily die if you don't know what you are doing.
So, Good Luck!
