There are a few situations where spanking might be useful. For example, if your 2 year old can open the front door and go out and get hit by a car in the middle of the street then maybe spanking that child so they don't die might be useful.
It's true that the traditional role of children was to be "little Adults" and even I experienced this growing up myself. For example, I was expected to be "Emotionally at least" be a full adult by age 4 years old. This didn't help my childhood much in some ways but helped me physically survive better throughout my life.
I think it's about "The law of the jungle" that we all must deal with sooner or later where someone may try to kill us and without the right kind of discipline we will not survive these situations.
So, if spanking keeps your child alive so they don't die then maybe spanking is useful?
Others I suppose would just let their child at 2 open the front door and die being hit by a car in the street?
I'm not really sure anymore because the world is just so different than in the 1950s now.
I think not spanking is why the young aren't up in arms about what is happening to our government like they were during the Viet Nam War.
However, it is true the Draft of all eligible boys over 18 isn't in effect right now either which helped young college age students protest the deaths of all their friends from High School too during the Viet Nam War.
So, all the people in the military are now volunteers which changes the dynamics completely too.
