While
Russia is one of the world's leading oil and natural gas producers, a
perfect storm of structural and military pressures has resulted in
severe domestic fuel shortages.
Refinery Disruptions:
Ongoing Ukrainian drone attacks have caused partial shutdowns and
significant damage to critical processing infrastructure, such as
compressor stations and refineries.
Export Bans:
To combat localized shortages, the Russian government has imposed fuel
restrictions across more than 40 regions and completely halted exports
of gas, diesel, and jet fuel to stabilize the home market.
Surging Inflation: Domestic gas prices rose 13.9% and diesel surged 14.7% in the first half of 2026 alone. According to the Anadolu Agency, these skyrocketing energy costs are aggressively driving up logistics, storage, and consumer inflation.
