John Carter PG-13 2012 ‧ Action/Adventure ‧ 2h 12m Made by Disney and can be streamed from Disney too

Though I think this movie wasn't as well received as Disney intended I find it to be an amazing movie written by Edgar Rice Burroughs. His writing style is very interesting and maybe comparable to Jules Verne who might have inspired Burroughs some too. I like this movie so much I try to watch it about once a year because it is so well put together.

From my personal point of view this is Classic Science Fiction at it's best!

.

Box Office & Financial Impact

Budget: Around $263 million to $306 million in net/gross production costs (plus roughly $100 million in marketing).
Box Office: Grossed about $284.1 million worldwide ($73 million domestic and $211 million international).
Losses: Resulted in a $200 million write-down for Walt Disney Pictures, making it one of the largest and most famous box-office bombs in film history.
Fallout: The poor performance led to the cancellation of planned sequels (Gods of Mars and Warlord of Mars) and the resignation of studio executive Rich Ross.

Critical Reception

Reviews: Received mixed reviews from critics (sitting around 52% on Rotten Tomatoes), with praise for its visual effects, action, and Michael Giacchino's score, paired with criticism for its dense plot and characterization.
Legacy: Over the years, the film has developed a dedicated cult following and appreciation for its world-building, though opinions on its flaws remain mixed. It is available to stream on Disney+.
