When did Netflix Start Streaming (or how did Netflix put Blockbuster out of business?

I started likely around 1998 getting Netflix DVDs in the mail because it was cheaper and more convenient than driving to Blockbuster then. You could order the movies you wanted online for a set fee per month rather than pay a certain amount each time you rented a movie from Blockbuster. So, this was much more reasonable and cost efficient (as long as you knew what movie you wanted to watch next).

By the way Netflix started it's DVD mail in monthly fee service in 1998. But, it took until streaming became a big thing  at Netflix starting in 2007 until 2014 before Blockbuster went out of business over most of the U.S.

Netflix launched its streaming service on January 16, 2007.
Initially introduced as a bonus feature called "Watch Now" for DVD subscribers, it started with roughly 1,000 available titles. By November 2010, Netflix began offering a standalone streaming subscription separate from its DVD-by-mail service.
