AI Overview

Nevermore Academy in Netflix's Wednesday is indeed named after the famous repeated refrain ("Nevermore") from Edgar Allan Poe's 1845 poem "The Raven".

Poe's connection to the show goes deeper than just the school's name:

Poe as an Alumnus: Edgar Allan Poe is treated as a famous past student and patron of Nevermore Academy (which caters to outcasts, monsters, and psychics).
The Poe Cup: The school's annual competitive boat race is called the Poe Cup, where student teams dress up in Edgar Allan Poe-themed attire.
The Secret Society: The school's exclusive student society is the Nightshades, and their hidden library entrance is accessed through a statue of Edgar Allan Poe in the local town of Jericho.

Even if his original stories feel a bit too dark or macabre to read, the show leans heavily into his gothic legacy as a fun nod to dark academia.
