IF you are quoting from a website a word button (link) often you cannot put in "compose" "Begin quote from" or whatever you use to denote a quote at your site easily. So, what I have learned to do is to put the "Begin quote from" on the same line as the quote link. Then after I write this I put the cursor at the end of the Begin quote from: and hit the enter key. This drops the link line down one line for easier reading for your readers of the quote link.

I have said before that if you have a blog at blogspot (blogger.com) that you can use "compose" rather than using HTML directly. "Compose" allows you to just write text or put pictures or links without having to understand the intricacies of HTML types of online languages as much. So, you can actually blog without understanding fully HTML or other online languages like Java.

I grew up on the ocean in Seattle and Los Angeles and San Diego
The climate in Seattle and Southern California are very very different. In Seattle it rains a whole lot and in Portland about 1/2 as much as Seattle and in California it might rain maybe 5 to 10 days a year or 20 at most in Southern California. But, when it rains it often floods in California so if you are visiting the state remember this one fact about California especially if you are in the deserts right next to the mountains with rain clouds over those mountains because it is very dangerous when this happens. Also, if you see rain clouds anywhere within 25 to 50 miles of you never walk in dry washes in California because you could die from Flash flooding without warning. This is also true in Arizona, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico and likely parts of Texas as well.

Growing up on the ocean is very different than growing up inland. There are always large bodies of water to deal with and to relate to if you are growing up near an ocean. So, a lot of your waking hours might be spent walking along an ocean or lake and walking in the water or swimming or snorkeling or surfing because of this if you are an out of doors person like my father and I always were. So, I grew up always swimming in oceans playing with seaweed and friends and relatives around beach fires in Seattle and California a lot. And once we moved to San Diego we went to the ocean a lot in San Diego and later at Santa Monica I used to go with my Aunt and her son my cousin who is 5 years older than I. Then in summers relatives sometimes would drive south from Seattle to visit my father and mother and I and my cousin and his mother too in the Los Angeles area and then we would visit the beaches and one time my three cousins and I were taken out in a rip tide at Zuma beach with a girl cousin who was 15 and I at age 8 on a plastic mat before I had learned to swim and we needed to be rescued by several life guards at that beach then in 1956.
So, after almost drowning and being beaten to death by big waves coming in after almost drowning out there in the ocean it took a lot to overcome my fear of drowning after that but I did because I was always a risk taker and an adventurer. So, I went to Verdugo Pool and taught myself to swim and eventually learned to surf on a surfboard by 12 to 14 years of age and to become a scuba diver and snorkeler as well. After a while I realized scuba diving was pretty dangerous and the same for surfing when my friend was run over across his back by a fin or skeg from a surfboard and had to heal up for several months. So, I started mountain climbing and rock climbing after that and skiing and riding motorcycles in the desert. I also still love to body surf and boogie board in the ocean even at this age but mostly I like snorkeling in places like Hawaii and skiing both downhill and cross country skiing now at age 71. I also still have a KLR 650 motorcycle that I like to ride sometimes too. Seeing my friend riding his bicycle long distance yesterday might have inspired me to start riding my mountain bike again too. I have also wanted to buy an electric bicycle for riding along the beaches where i live too. So, I'm still thinking about all that too. After all, I'm still an adventurer even at 71 like most of my male friends still. It's the adventure of life that keeps us alive into our 70s and 80s and being physically active.
Territory underwater
Territory underwater was a Los Angeles based TV show about Scuba Diving that my father and I watched. I was inspired to get my Junior Scuba license and my father had to go with me to get certified as a scuba diver too then. It only cost 25 dollars at the time and I had earned enough working for my father as an electrician summers to pay for both our licenses which including a trip to Catalina island and a boat dive to 50 feet deep which I also did.
When we got to Catalina my father got sea sick from the boat rocking in the waves and couldn't scuba dive. So, I partnered up with another older diver and we went down and looked for lobsters at 50 feet deep. I remember looking up in the very clear waters there at the boat which looked like it was sitting on top of a telephone pole so high above me it was slowly rocking in the waves at likely Emerald Cove on Catalina Island off of Los Angeles, California. I saw my first lobsters underwater that my partner gathered that are orange as well as the Moray eel that chased him because the eel wanted to eat the lobsters or bite the man that stole them from the eel.
A Moray eel is about 5 to 6 feet long and if it bites your arm or leg it's jaw breaks and you cannot get them off your arm or leg. So, you don't want to get bitten by a moray eel underwater. So, that was the scariest experience of the day for me in coming within a few feet of an angry moray eel 50 feet underwater in an underwater cave at age 12 or 14 then.

I did the Ensenada Race in 1960 when I was 12 by sailboat
The race began in Long Beach then in 1960 when I was 12. My father and I and 3 TWA pilots(an passenger airline that no longer exists) sailed to Ensenada from Long Beach, California. I was okay on a sailboat as long as I could see the shore. So, when I woke up sleeping in the bow of the boat after being thrown into the air all night from the storm I expected to see the land. But, when I crawled out onto the deck there was no land to be seen because we had gone way out into the ocean to avoid hitting land or rocks during the storm. So, I had a moment of panic where I had to pull myself together. I had been pulled out into the ocean when I was 8 at Zuma Beach on a plastic mat before I had learned to swim so being out away from the land brought back this panic. So, I sort of bit my lip until blood came and swallowed my fears and dealt with it and moved on into the next part of the adventure. In Ensenada I bought lots of Fireworks because you can't buy them in California and my friends and I had a great time for weeks with all of the firecrackers and roman candles and sky rockets when I returned home to Glendale then after we sailed back to Long Beach after the race ended in Ensenada.
We sailed in a fiberglass hull (a Bounty II) which we had helped a friend build up from a fiberglass frame on weekends for a few years. I had also sailed his Sabot small Sailboat around the harbor a lot then too by myself because I was also a good swimmer if I capsized in too big a wind. I capsized once with it and had to swim for it alone then when I was about 10. Luckily I had learned to swim by 9 in Verdugo Pool in Glendale. It's an Oympic sized swimming pool with high dives and everything.
I guess it was Newport Beach to Ensenada. It looks like it started last Friday and ended yesterday.

My wife's father and his crew sailed to Hawaii while she was growing up in this race. This year it starts on Friday July 26th 2019. Some other crews didn't bring enough food or water to save weight and never spoke to each other again from privation after the race. But, my wife's father brought plenty of food and water and so the crew was happy at the end of the race.
