Religion

I was thinking today how religions started among human beings and realized that they started by parents telling children stories so they wouldn't be so afraid that they just jumped off a cliff or drowned themselves or something like that. That is actually where religion began right there. Stories of comfort and safety told to children so that when they grew up and had children of their own that they could tell these same stories to them so they wouldn't go mad and kill themselves to when something happened like a friend or close relative dying or something like that.

Were those stories true? Sometimes they were true and sometimes not but they were used to keep their children and their tribes alive. When stories over time become accepted legends maybe the continuity they bring to that tribe or culture of people is the important thing and not whether the story is ultimately true today or then.

However, today we have science and religion often at odds with each other. And the problem I have with this is that in a way both science and religion are both religions in a sense. It's true that much more can be proved in Science than in religions in general. But since there is still so much that people don't know about all sorts of things yet, science to some degree has to be considered a lot like a religion too.

So, most people nowadays believe that science knows a lot more than religions do. And maybe this is good and maybe this is bad. It all depends upon your point of view. However, no religion can prove what it believes beyond a shadow of a doubt and we are all left with stories we tell our children and it really doesn't matter what book it is written in or who is saying it now. In the end each of us must make up our minds what we believe every single moment. And I think each of us making up our minds every single moment is a good thing because it makes us grow and think and become more compassionate and wise all throughout our lives.

So, when friends of mine thought I should start a new religion I said to them, "There are already too many religions. People are already so confused from so many religions they don't know what to do. Besides, I consider religions basically obsolete." So, even though I might have started a new religion I looked around at the harm done to people by existing religions and thought to myself, "No Way would I want to start another religion seeing all the confusion and death that religions have brought just in the last 3000 years or so.

So, to me, the most important thing is for all people to be free of anyone or any religion or any priest or minister of any religion constantly brainwashing them to pay for the minister or priests livelihood. Religions aren't dangerous in themselves, I consider the danger to be all the people brainwashed out of their money and fortunes for no good reason that I can see as the real danger. So, to me, being able to have your own direct connection to God and the universe might be the single most important thing in being a human being on earth. And maybe religions aren't just obsolete for me but for most of mankind.

And once you have that direct connection with God, God will show you who he wants you to help every single day of your life forever.
