3 inches of snow in Point Pleasant, New Jersey

I'm watching one of the weather men from the weather channel stand on top of newly made dunes along the coast at the ocean there in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. Heavy equipment took all the sand they could and moved it back into dunes along the beach to protect the town from further damage from wind and sea and tides. Normally, they don't do this because the sand has all sorts of things in it like nails, screws (you name it) in the sand because of all the houses that were destroyed. But they had no choice this time or they worried the whole town might be gone this time. So, this is a completely emergency action by the area to try to save their city and area from permanent erosion and the loss of more houses.

The weather man is standing in 3 or more inches of snow on the dunes there. Since this is south of New York in New Jersey likely the snow everywhere north of him is worse than what you are seeing here on the dunes at the beach. He says there is still about 1 mile visibility and is a little worried about high tides but he thinks the new snow covered dunes will hold it back at this point in most places.

Also, you have what is called "Sea smoke" caused by 55 degree waters in the ocean hitting the colder air which causes mist and fog rising from the sea. All weather people called this situation this early in the year as surrealistic and that this weatherman on location likely hasn't encountered anything like this this time of year before.

We had this same "sea smoke"  effect here the other night as my son and I walked my dog and my daughter's dog along the beach just after sunset here on the Northern California coast. The Temperatures here have dropped from the 80s to the low 50s as highs now before the rain comes tomorrow.
