All these social programs had very rocky beginnings and in regard to Civil Rights during the Johnson Administration U.S. Federal Marshalls had to enforce it many places and many people died directly or indirectly or went to jail because of this enforcement here in the U.S.
If we take Social Security when it first was voted into place during the 1930s it was basically something like "Food Stamps for old and retired people" so they didn't starve to death when they were too old to work. But over time it morphed slowly but surely into what it is today.
Because Obama was re-elected the likelihood now is that Obamacare will take it's place alongside of Social Security, Medicare and Civil Rights. It will change a lot just like Social Security did over the years.
But, I think parts of the program like parents covering their children under their policies until age 26 in college or not is becoming so popular that likely no faction in Congress will be able to get rid of that. Also, the part of Obamacare that does not allow insurance companies to throw people out of their policies will also be very difficult to dislodge nationally because this is tantamount to murder in many cases. The other thing is that by keeping people on their policies no matter what their conditions may be likely in most cases will prevent bankruptcies occurring unless those people are out of work and cannot make their insurance payments. But then hopefully, state programs like Medi-Cal in California will step in at this point in many if not most cases.
So, the likelihood at this point is that Obamacare will remain like Social Security, Medicare and Civil rights has remained even though all but Civil Rights have changed a lot over the years. And like I said I believe that Obamacare will change over the years as much as Social Security has already.
