Zooniverse
Zooniverse appears to be a site where interested citizen scientists from around the world can participate in research into various fields. For example, I am presently interested in Solar Storms so as I created a log in, after that I started to see what information they might have already on Solar Storms this year. They want people to help analyze data from various satellites regarding solar storms on the sun if you are interested. I think there are about 700,000 to 800,000 people who are interested so far in doing this on many different subjects worldwide. So, for someone interested in doing research to help mankind survive better this might be useful. However, you are doing this for free as a hobbyist and then actual scientists with Masters degrees and PHd's will gather this information and publish scientific papers about it and eventually that kind of information after going through publications like "Scientific American" and others makes it through to National Geographic and other popular magazines interested in various kinds of scientific research.
